Montreal Canadiens vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
Wisniewski’s here! Wisniewski’s here! Never in my wildest dreams did I think these would be the excited words escaping my lips. But they are today.
The addition of James Wisniewski to the Habs lineup will add a much needed dimension that has been missing since the departure of Mike Komasarik. (Wow! Did that ever work out well for Gainey!) JW will bring that gritty physical presence back to the blue line with an added offensive ability and power play touch. Dare I say it? JW is an upgrade on what Komasarik was! So while Komasarik signed and struggled with the “Maple Leaves” for $5 Million per, Gauthier picked up Wisniewski for a song and a prayer!
- Andrei Markov (Torn ACL-out indefinitely)
- Josh Jorges (Day to Day)
- Alex Picard (healthy scratch)
- Mike Smith
- Steve Downie
Keys to the Game
Montreal’s defense has gone soft. Getting beat to the outside constantly, absolutely no protection for Carey Price, and turnover after turnover. There has been little offensive production from the forwards either, but I can’t see them fixing that until they regain their confidence in the defenders. The addition of Wisniewski (to beat a dead horse) will do wonders to amp up this sleeping defensive unit if for no other reason than with one more body on the blue line, spots are now up for grabs.
Pacioretty needs to continue his bash and crash forechecking, something that proved to be very effective to free up space for Gomez and Gionta to work their magic.
