Gameday! Habs vs. Red Wings

Montreal Canadiens vs. Detroit Red Wings

Two original six teams meet tonight for what is bound to be a good one.  Both these teams are at the top of their divisions and have not only met, but surpassed the expectations placed on them for this season.  While Detroit has gotten great play from their top players, Montreal has been getting production from unlikely places in Jeff Halpern, Mathieu Darche and Benoit Pouliot.  A consistent team effort has vaulted the Habs to Northeast division best, 38 points, sitting only back of the streaking Penguins, and faultering Capitals in the entire NHL.

Who’s out?

  • Andrei Markov (Torn ACL-out indefinitely)
  • Scott Gomez (lower body – day to day)
  • Yannick Webber (healthy scratch)

  • Mike Modano

Keys to the Game

With the return of P.K. Subban to the lineup, the Canadiens power play should see a significant boost in production.  Despite Webber’s solid play, there was a glaring hole left by the absence of Subban on the powerplay.

With Gomez sidelined with a minor injury, Halpern and Eller should see extra time with the 2nd line and will have the opportunity to play a more offensive game.

My Prediction

Montreal 3 – Detroit 2  SO
