Gameday! Habs vs. Senators

Montreal Canadiens vs. Ottawa Senators

Every time these two teams play I have a vision of the fans of both teams standing on either side of the Ottawa River, throwing pucks at each other and shouting obscenities. Yes, I realize this is geographically ridiculous, but it helps to explain the great rivalry that has grown between these two clubs.  The mood certainly has not been lightened by the Sens signing of former Habs star Alex Kovalev, who hasn’t done much this season but always brings his “A” game when playing his former club.

Who’s out?

Montreal

  • Andrei Markov (Torn ACL-out indefinitely)
  • Dustin Boyd (healthy scratch)
  • *P.K. Subban (healthy scratch)

*P.K. has been learning a tonne, watching from the press box, and although everyone is having a panic attack seeing his name in the healthy scratch column, Martin knows what he is doing.  (just ask Carey Price)

Ottawa

  • no injuries announced

Keys to the Game

Montreal has been getting their offense from several players not named Gomez, Cammalleri and Gionta.  While this is a great, great thing, these guys really need to get things going in order for this team to be successful for the entire season.

Although both Darche and Halpern have the same offensive output as Ilya Kovalchuk this year (pfft), I don’t think they are the ones to carry this load alone.  Gionta has shown improvement playing with Plekanec and Kostitsyn, but Cammalleri needs Gomez to play with more passion so he doesn’t feel the need to carry the puck (and overskate it) himself.

My Prediction

Montreal 3 – Ottawa 1
